Glass vs Plastic Hummingbird Feeders
Glass and plastic feeders can both work well. The better choice depends on cleaning habits, climate, budget, and where the feeder will hang.
Glass Feels Sturdy but Is Not Automatically Cleaner
Glass reservoirs resist staining and often look nicer after repeated washing. They can also be heavier, more breakable, and less forgiving if dropped on a patio.
The feeding ports, base, and tiny seams matter as much as the bottle. A glass feeder with a complicated plastic base can be harder to clean than a simple plastic saucer.
Plastic Is Practical When the Design Is Simple
Plastic feeders are light, inexpensive, and easy to replace. In hot sun, some plastics cloud or warp over time, so inspection is part of ownership.
Choose plastic feeders with wide openings and removable parts. If you cannot reach every surface with a brush, the feeder is not convenient enough for regular use.
